As Trainee Key Worker you will be allocated client’s cases. You will receive on-going training, guidance and support. You are expected to work closely with clients, providing personal care, participatively developing therapeutic programmes and maintaining the individual programme planning process whilst your activity is supervised by The Home Manager and he Quality and Rehabilitation Systems Manager. Your performance will be closely monitored over six months, and you will receive regular feedback from your line manager. Following a successful six month appraisal you will become Key Worker. You will work collaboratively with the Home Manager, Deputy Manager, Quality and Rehabilitation Systems Manager and Associate Workers. You are expected to participate in household tasks and ensure a safe, clean and healthy environment for clients. You are required to vigilantly seek out all risk assessments and reactive management plans with regard to aspects of health and safety and client behaviour, ensuring that you understand and can implement them effectively. You must be able to drive and maintain a current UK driving licence. Your role will demand working with other professional disciplines, research, organising meetings and carrying out assessments. You will receive guidance and support as you undertake such activities. At all times you must maintain a professional outlook and effectively realise your role as ambassador for the organisation. Your position will require regular training/ education which you must undertake at the discretion of the Employer. You are expected to actively improve your knowledge base/skills independently and you are obliged to attend compulsory monthly support meetings with the Home Manager to address your performance and other work related issues.
In association with the above, the role expectancies for this position are to:
- Collaborate with your assigned clients, their Associate Worker and pertinent others such Health and Social Care professionals involved in their care and rehabilitation to develop individual care and rehabilitation plans with the support of the Home Manager and Quality and Rehabilitation Systems Manager (QRSM).
- Help clients in all aspects of daily living, including personal care.
- With support and guidance, learn about and implement the systematic approach to care and rehabilitation operated within the home by assessing clients and developing, preparing and maintaining Individual Programme Plans and Goal Plans for your assigned clients.
- Be non-judgmental and defend client’s life choices when they are unable to do so.
- Develop a spirit of friendship with clients, maintaining unconditional positive regard.
- Work closely with your assigned client/s to develop an effective Weekly Activity Schedule.
- With support and guidance maintain an effective time management regime, utilising the daily organiser system operational in the home.
- With training, support and guidance, prepare client review reports and plan and organise review meetings in line with the IPP system operated in the Home for your assigned clients, working closely with the Home Manager/ Deputy Manager/ QRSM and the client‘s Associate Worker.
- Liaise with the Home Manager/ Deputy Manager, QRSM and other professionals to develop and maintain suitable care and rehabilitative support for your assigned clients.
- Research the environment in order to identify suitable resources to support your assigned client’s life-career development.
- Actively facilitate and enable your assigned clients to build a fulfilling life.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment for all clients.
- With support and guidance, develop risk assessments and reactive management strategies for your assigned client in collaboration with the Home/ Deputy Manager, QRSM and Associate Worker and/or relevant health and care professional involved in the care and rehabilitation of the client as appropriate.
- Work effectively as part of the team in the Home, providing direct care and support for all clients in the Home as required and where directed by the Home Manager/ Deputy Manager.
- Help to establish a comfortable, homely environment for all clients.
- Following guidance and with full support, work within the statutory regulations and conditions relating to Residential Homes.
- Undertake all statutory training and obtain first-aid , food hygiene and manual handling certificates.
- Following training, administer medication to clients in line with medication training directives and the home‘s policy and procedure.
- Respect the rights, privacy and dignity of all clients with whom you work.
- Build a network of resources for clients.
- Assist your assigned client to develop and maintain external relationships.
- Assist your assigned client manage his/her financial affairs in line with his/ her rehabilitation programme.
- Drive or undertake driving lessons during your six month probationary period, with a view to holding a full, clean, current UK driving license and being able to drive the vehicle/s attached to the home, which is considered essential to the position.
- Actively maintain awareness of current prOKare policies and procedures and adhere to them.
- Work flexibly, to suit demands in the home. This will include working occasional nights when necessary to cover sickness/ absence or leave of the home’s night staff. Such nights will be set on the rota by the Home Manager.
- Learn and maintain full awareness of the management and operational systems that are being implemented in the home, and demonstrate understanding of them.

Trainee Key Workers will work a 35 hour week consisting of three non-consecutive days from 8.20am – 9.10pm with two x 40 minute breaks. Four days off. All staff are contracted to attend a 2hr 10min staff training/meeting session each calendar month.
Trainee Key Workers will appraised on performance after six months in post. Upon a successful appraisal Trainees will be offered a full time Key Worker position with the Company. Performance will be regularly monitored throughout the six month preparation period with a view to positively supporting and guiding trainees to facilitate a successful outcome.
All prOKare staff are expected to attend regular appraisals and to continually improve their knowledge and skill base. Staff will receive compulsory monthly in-service training. External courses to suit individual development profiles will be offered by the organisation at the discretion of senior management.
